Sedation Dentistry – Keeping Dental Treatment Pain Free

Does going to the dentist give you anxiety? If so, you’re not the only one. Nearly 60% of Americans suffer from dental anxiety. This fear, although very common, can have a significantly negative effect on getting proper dental care. So what can be done to calm your nerves?

Sedation Dentistry.

Sedation dentistry is the use of medication to help eliminate pain, discomfort, and even anxiety. There are many types of sedation and varying levels of sedation as well. At our Millersville dental office, we like to use oral sedation.

Oral Sedation

Oral sedation is a form of sedation that can be taken orally, usually in pill form. Depending on the dosage of the sedative, this medication can be minor or moderate. This is one of the more common or routine dental sedation methods. These pills can cause sleepiness and feelings of drowsiness, but normally do not knock the patient out. It’s a form of conscious sedation that doesn’t put the patient to sleep.
